New staff induction

Posted by: | July 4, 2012 | No Comment |

On Tuesday 3 July, the Digital Leaders were asked to run a 45-minute meeting with the 8 new class teachers who will be joining Bowling Park Primary School in September.

They paired up to show the teachers the digital cameras, flip cams, netbooks, laptops, iPod Touches, iPads and the school blog.

After short introductory presentations from each of the groups, the teachers were allowed to choose different pieces of new technology to test out. The Digital Leaders were on hand to answer any questions and to provide technical assistance when needed.

Thank you and congratulations to all the Digital Leaders for a very professional meeting and the last big task of 2011/12.

Evaluating iPad apps

Posted by: | May 2, 2012 | 11 Comments |

As you know we have been lucky enough to buy some iPad 2s for school recently. The Apple App Store has thousands and thousands of apps, some of which are amazing and some which are dreadful.

Unfortunately, deciding which apps are good and which aren’t is very difficult to do and very time-consuming.

So, please spend some time working in pairs to evaluate some different iPad apps.

To do this, choose any app, spend some time using it and learning what it can do. Then, answer the following questions using the comments button on this blog post. Remember to write in full sentences:

What is the app called?

What does it do?

What do you like about the app?

What do you dislike about the app?

How could we use it in school?

Which year groups do you think it is most suited for?

Should we keep the app or delete it?

Would you recommend it to a friend?

Once you have answered all of the questions, choose another app and start again. Thanks for your help!

Evaluating Our Teaching

Posted by: | April 20, 2012 | 40 Comments |

Please evaluate your own teaching during SMILE Week by answering the following questions as honestly as you can. Leave your answers as comments:

Which classes did you teach?

What were you trying to teach the children you worked with?

Were there any differences between different aged children? Which classes did you prefer teaching? Why?

How did you find the behaviour of children in the lessons you taught?

What do you think you did well?

What might you need to improve if you repeated the lesson?

Did you enjoy teaching? What did you enjoy or not enjoy about it?
